This1829 map of Suffolk County is from the Atlas of New York State published under the direction of Simeon DeWitt, Surveyor General of New York by David H. Burr.  These images were obtained from the David Rumsey Map Collection, and additional publication information may be found there.  A high resolution download in MrSid format is also available (as well as a MrSid reader).

I present three images here: the full map, a crop just showing the Town of Brookhaven, and a further crop just showing Fire Place and vicinity.

Note that what is now commonly called "South Haven" is labeled as "Fire Place," and just to the north is Carmans -- clearly a slightly improper shifting of the labels.  And it certainly appears as if in 1829 all roads led to South Haven on the south shore.

An original of this map may be found at the SUNY-SB Library Map Collection.
