Guest Houses

Early 20th Century Guest Houses

While Fire Place (later Brookhaven Hamlet) had a few summer residences in the early to middle 19th century, the advent of railroad service in the late 19th century greatly increased the popularity of south shore Long Island communities among vacationers.  Brookhaven Hamlet was said to have had a dozen or so small hotels and guest houses in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  The following is an evolving list of these establishments.
