![]() | George Tooker by Thomas H. Garver ... This is a Google Books preview of Garver's book. As such, pages are missing. Even so, the color reproductions capture the luminous quality of the artist's work in egg tempera, and his meticulous painting technique is described in detail through an intimate look into Tooker's studio. For more than forty-five years Tooker has painted haunting psychological landscapes that explore the human condition of modern society, all characterized by mystery, magic, ambiguity, symbolism, classical form, and masterful technique. The absorbing images both enchant and repel us in their forceful depiction of the complexities of our age while clearly demonstrating the artist's love of composition and human form. | 27 Nov 2008 | ||

| Carol Robinson Playing Debussy, 1923 Claude Debussy: Arabesque No. 2 in G Minor. Recorded on a piano roll. This is the only recording so far found of a Carol Robinson performance. Piano rolls were made from the recorded performances of famous musicians. A pianist would sit at a specially designed recording piano, and the pitch and duration of any notes played would be either marked or perforated on a blank roll, together with the duration of the sustaining and soft pedal. Reproducing pianos also re-created the dynamics of a pianist's performance by means of specially encoded control perforations placed towards the edges of the roll. Reproducing pianos were said to very accurately reproduce a pianist’s performance. Many famous pianists made recordings, including Debussy playing Debussy. This performance is from Masters of the Piano Roll: Debussy plays Debussy. © http://www.dal-segno.com | 04 Nov 2008 |
