- He purchased for $25 each two pews in the newly built church, nos. 4 and 5*. These were for the use of his family and family's heirs "forever." Pews 4 and 5 were believed to be the first two pews at the front left. (Many pews were purchased back in 1840, although the Robert pews were not listed among them. Some families were still claiming their hereditary rights to their pews in 1889.)
* Borthwick's assignment of pews is based on the arrangement of the pews in 1930 (and present). Yet, he reports that the interior of the church was rearranged at some point which placed the pulpit at the opposite end of the meeting house. Whether the pews were arranged in the same way then as now is problematical.
