- He is known to have owned land in what is now the Village of Bellport (between the present golf course and the peat farm) in the late 1700's. It is uncertain whether he owned land further east in Fire Place (now Brookhaven Hamlet) or South Haven.

Misc |
was a Loyalist during the American Revolution. [1] |
- He at first was supportive of the Revolutionary cause, signing a resolution to that end on 13 Jun 1774 (the resolution contained a clause professing loyality to the King). But he apparently remained a Loyalist throughout the war, and did not support independence for the colonies. On the whole, members of the Fanning family appear to have been Loyalists, even though some were sympathetic to the protests against specific excesses of the English government.

Religion |
South Haven (Presbyterian Church), Brookhaven, Suffolk, NY [5] |
probably a Presbyterian. |
- It is not certain that he was a communicant member of the church, but early records indicate his association and likely attendance, perhaps because there was no "King's" church at the South in the Town of Brookhaven during the colonial period.
