  Brookhaven Fire Commissioners (Brookhaven, NY, Fire District), about 1947 .. in front of the new fire station of the Brookhaven Fire Department dedicated August 1947. In 1947, the fire district had just one fire station. There is now a second station at the eastern end of the district, in Shirley, NY. An addition has also been added to this building to the left. Also, a detached service building has been constructed further to the left (east). A private dwelling behind this site has been converted to fire district offices. The actual date of the picture is uncertain. A history of the South Country Ambulance Company (successor to the Brookhaven Ambulance Company) indicated that their purchase of a 1938 LaSalle ambulance from the Patchogue ambulance company did not occur until February 1948. The vehicle immediately to the right of the fire commissioners is almost certainly the 1938 ambulance. The vehicle to the extreme right is the 1926 Kissell ambulance also purchased from the Patchogue ambulance company in 1940 at the founding of the Brookhaven Ambulance Company. Born in New London, Conn., sh had lived in Brookhaven for the past ten years. Mrs. Brown leaves her husband, Orlando W. Brown of Brookhave; two sons, Douglas E. Brown, Patchogue attorney, and Russell O. Brown, both of Brookhaven; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy M. Murdock of Brookhaven; two brothers, Milton S. Floyd and Douglas E. Floyd, both of Rockville Center; a sister, Miss Millie Floyd of Rockville Centre, and two grandchildren. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Brown home, the Rev. Harold Jones of Southampton, formerly of Bellport, officiating. Interment was in Woodland cemetery, Bellport. Brown, an attorney who is seeking one of the Republican nominations for justice of the peace, writes to a friend explaining some question raised about his residence, as follows: "I desire to inform you concerning the comment made to you of my residence since my name was advanced by the Bellport delegation as the Republican candidate for justice of the peace at the recently held Republican caucus in Port Jefferson. "My actual and legal voting residence is in Bellport, the 27th Election district of the Town of Brookhaven. I am a regularly enrolled Republican of that district and president of the Bellport Republican club. I have for some time past been sojourning at my brother's residence in Brookhaven, which, for proximity to water and its attendant pleasures, has been mor convenient. I am fon of Brookhaven and enjoy many friendships there of people who consider that I am as much a part of Brookhaven as of Bellport. Attorney Douglas Brown Establishes Office Native of Bellport Living in Brookhaven Sets Up for Law Practice—Been with Hawkins Attorney Douglas E. Brown, a native of Bellport who is now making his home in Brookhaven, opened offices this week for the practice of law in the Hawkins building at 22 South Ocean avenue. Counselor Brown has taken the middle offices in the front of the building and the alterations are now being completed, a partition having been built across the large office space dividing it into a private office and waiting room. For the past two years Mr. Brown has been associated with Ralph J. Hawkins, who is town counsel, in his offices in the Syndicate building on West Main street, having recently severed his connections there. During the past two years he has been able to gain an extensive knowledge of town and municipal law along with general practice. Mr. Brown is a graduate of Columbia university and of the New York Law school. He served for a time in the offices of Mupes and Raynor, general practitioners in the Bronx and then for two years with Wherry and Wight at 120 Broadway, a law firm specializing in corporate and public utility law so that he has gained a background of various forms of law previous to entering practice for himself. Attorney Brown has also been active in Republican politics, having aided in the formation of the Bellport Republican club last year, and at the present time he is serving as president of that organization.
