Pfc. Ralph Brown, aged 35, has been wounded in action in France, according to a letter received from him Monday by his father, Robert Brown of Bell street, Bellport.
In the letter, which was the first news the father had had of his son having been wounded, Private Brown says he has been awarded the Order of the Purple Heart and is sending it home. The letter was written from a hospital in England.
Declaring that "the Jerry got me," Prifate Brown wrote highly in praise of the "medics," the Army medical corps, for the treatment he received after being wounded in the shoulder.
A graduate of Bellport Grade school and of Patchogue High school, Private Brown for several years assisted his father in the hardware business in Bellport, and was employed in a war industrial plant in Connecticut just before entering the Army. He is unmarried.
