Tookers Celebrate 51 Years of Marriage; Many Friends Present
Four generations of their well-known family were among the guests who gathered last Wednesday to celebrate the fifty-first wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin B. Tooker, Sr., of Center Moriches.
Following an afternoon tea, at which the bride and bridegroom of yesteryear were the guests of honor, the members of the family gathered for family suppers. The guests at the tea, which was given by Mrs. Arthur Austin, granddaughter of the Tookers, included: Mr. and Mrs. Tooker, their daughter, Mrs. Herman A. von Glahn of Patchogue, their granddaughter, Mrs. Austin, and their great-granddaughter, Judith Lee Austin, who comprise the four generations.
Also present were Mrs. Joseph A Titmus, Mrs. Alice Birchell, and Mrs Lloyd Penny, Moriches; Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin B. Tooker, Jr., and son, Robert, Mineola; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Tooker, Patchogue; Mrs. George Havens, the Rev. and Mrs.Harold L. Beaumont, Miss Margaret Kay, Mrs. D. L. Brown, Mrs. Mary Davis, Mrs. Frank Baldwin, Miss Shirley Baldwin, and Miss Phyllis Baldwin. Also, Mrs. Edward Thomas, Capt. J. Ezra Hawkins, Mrs. Arthur Schoener, Sr., Mrs. Emery Tenke, Jr., Mrs. and Mrs. Robert L. Johnson, Mrs. Clifford Bowditch, Mrs. Edwin Murdock, Mrs. R. T. Dayton, Mrs. William Houghton, and Mrs. George Schuyler. Mrs. H. A. T. Hedges, Mrs. Ellen T. Hunter, Mrs. Alfred Kochlin, and the Misses Annette and Elizabeth Kochlin. Ruth Schuyler, Jean Murdock, Carol Ann Tenke and Miss Sarah Thomas.
Coming from a Center Moriches family of bygone years, Mrs. Tooker before her marriage was Miss Phoebe Maria Thomas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Thomas, whose old homestead still stands on Main street. Mr. Tooker is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin B. Tooker of Mastic and Great River.
For many years, during the first great war, and more recently, World War II, he was the postmaster here in Center Moriches. The Tookers have three children. Mrs. Mildred von Glahn, and Richard W. Tooker of Patchogue, and Benjamin B. Tooker, Jr., of Mineola, two grandchildren, Mrs. Doris D. Austin of Center Moriches, and Robert B. Tooker of Mineola, and one great-granddaughter, Judith Lee Austin, of Center Moriches.
