Comment: From "Early Photographs of the Hamlet of Brookhaven collected by George Perley Morse 1945-1959."

Morse caption:
"Home of (Deacon) Daniel Hawkins - 1800 (sic*)
"Built by Azel Hawkins (1806-1851), brother of Selah (1775-1845). First located on north side of Beaver Dam Road on the Morrow property [see Br25]. Azel had two sons Samuel and Daniel. Daniel inherited home and Samuel built his home a few rods to the east [see Br25.1-S]. Daniel died October 15, 1896 at the age of 87 years. It is believed that his son George sold the homestead to a Mr. Lohman who built large living room of east side. It was then sold to a Mr. Thompson who raised the second floor to full head-room and also moved the house across road on east corner of Mott Lane. He took in boarders. Mr. Frederick W. Kost, an artist purchased the old home along with about 12 acres and moved it to the present location. About 1952 it was sold to Mr. Edwin Johnkaneht."

[* It is unclear to me why "1800" follows the caption heading. From the caption, it is ambiguous when this picture might have been taken -- perhaps it is stiill on the north side of Beaver Dam Rd., with the road just visible crossing diagonally at the bottom. It is certainly before it was moved to it's present location. J.D.]
