Historic and Natural Districts Inventory Form

Table of ContentsReturn to Sites Table of Contents

Unless indicated below, this is a transcript of the original Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities/Town of Brookhaven survey form.  Corrections to obvious typographical and spelling errors have been made.  Corrections to factual errors, updates or comments on the information are either enclosed in [square brackets], or will be clearly indicated as updated material.  Since most of the surveys were conducted in the late 1970's and early 1980's, much of the information reflects that time period.

Sites with an Inventory Code suffix of "S" are supplemental sites not included in the original surveys.

3-Description
A small cemetery containing about a dozen graves located off Stillwood Road, north of Beaver Dam Road. Access to it is a right-of-way between #12 and #14 Stillwood Road. Some of the gravestones are missing, and it is slightly overgrown. [This is #81 on the Town of Brookhaven Historian's Cemetery Listing. Some genealogy reference work refer to it as the Deacon Daniel Hawkins cemetery, one of Azel Hawkins' sons.]
4-Significance
This branch of the Hawkins family (see Br20) slowly took over the middle section of Beaver Dam Road by marrying into the Rose family and buying them out. Both Selah Hawkins and Azel Hawkins owned houses on Beaver Dam Road in 1836.
