Pvt. Costa Killed; B'khaven Soldier Died in France
Had Worked At Better 'Ole For Several Years
Leaves Wife and Two Children—Former Member of Brookhaven Fire Department—Overseas Six Months
Pvt. Lawrence Costa, aged 35, who had been overseas with an infantry regiment since last January, was killed in action in France on Jun 12, the War department reports in a telegram received last Wednesday by his wife, who lives on Beaver Dam Road, Brookhaven.
Before entering the Army in May, 1943, Private Costa was associated with the restaurant business in the Brookhaven area for a number of years. For four years, he served as waiter in the Better 'Ole restaurant in Brookhaven, where he worked with Anthony "Tony" Iarocci, who was killed in action March 1 on the Anzio beachhead in Italy.
Born in Italy Private Costa came to this country 22 years ago. He had lived in Brookhaven for seven years, and at one time was a member of the Brookhaven Fire department.
Besides his wife, he leaves two children, Lawrence Costa, Jr., aged four years, and Thomas Costa, 14 months old; his mother, Mrs. Rose Costa in Italy; a sister, also in Italy, and two brothers, Peter Costa and Louis Costa, both of Brooklyn.
At one time, he operated the Green Lantern roadside stand on Robinson boulevard, Hagerman. Just before going into the Army, he had been working for a time in Brooklyn.
